Weight Loss in Healthy Neonates in First Three Days of Life

Abstract
Aims: (1) To evaluate the weight loss in healthy breastfed neonates in first three days of their life. (2) To compare the weight loss between different periods of gestation and different birth weight. Purpose: This study has been conducted to collect data on physiological weight loss and with the help of this data, neonates with excessive weight loss can be identified at earliest. This study included 63 preterm, 130 term and 7 post-term neonates. Mean weight loss at 24, 48 and 72 hours was 64.4 gms(2.37%), 146.2 gms(5.39%) and 207.3 gms (7.64%) respectively.
