WELLNESS IN ADULTS
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 53
Abstract
This study sought to investigate the concept of wellness in adulthood and in particular whether such variables as gender, age, employment status, relationship status and relationship satifaction impact on adult wellness. Data were collected from a sample of 314 adult subjects. Each of these subjects completed a basic demographic form along with the Adult Form of the Well Star Scale. The Well Star Scale yields a total score as well as sub-scores on the following wellness dimensions: cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and goal orientation and meaning of life. Results of this analysis failed to reveal significant differences between groups on the variables of age and gender. The results did suggest meaningful differences and relationship status and full scale and some of the subscales between those involved in meaningful relationships and those not currently in relationships. The results also did suggest meaningful difference at employment status social subcale. Additionally the personal satisfaction with that relationship was seen to be related to adult wellness. The findings were further examined in light of recent research and implications for counseling with adult subjects are discussed.
