When Social Appropriation of Science and Technology is Subject to “Management”. A reflection from the colombian case

Journal Title: Trilogía Ciencia Tecnología Sociedad - Year 2016, Vol 8, Issue 15

Abstract

This paper aims to reflect and problematize the issue of knowledge management for Social Appropriation of Science and Technology (SAST) which is presented as a line of action of the National Strategy on this matter issued in 2010 by Colciencias, Colombia’s National Organism of Science and Technology. This analysis is made in the light of the proposals of actors that contribute to SAST initiatives and that participated in the National Forum on this matter that took place in 2014. We ask about the meaning and challenges that involves thinking knowledge management for SAST. As far as SAST understands knowledge as mobile, diverse and located, and therefore difficult to manage, we try to show the threat over these processes that could cause a reductionist view on knowledge management that privileges criteria of novelty, efficiency and evaluation through indicators.
