Why another journal?
Journal Title: Biology and Medicine - Year 2009, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
It is indeed a great pleasure to launch a new online journal ‘Biology and Medicine' from the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University. The demanding field of life sciences, including its tools and techniques has its equally important applications in solving medical and biological problems which have eluded us despite the growing advancements in molecular biology and bioinformatics. Molecular medicine and molecular ecology both attract the geneticists, genome biologists and computational biologists. This only speaks of the rich complexity of living forms, the environment and Nature. Advancements in neuroscience, cancer biology, developmental biology and environmental science will raise new questions and problems that will envisage a further paradigm shift in life science research (systems biology & integrative biology).
Does intrinsic immune defect against common microbial pathogens
play an important role in arthritic manifestation?
The autoimmune diseases are characterized by inflammation and resulting degradation of macromolecules of specific foci. Etiopathogenesis of arthritis is still unclear. In recent times many studies have been published,...
Nephroprotective activities of the aqueous seed extract of
Carica papaya Linn. in carbon tetrachloride induced renal
injured Wistar rats: a dose- and time-dependent study
In the present study, the dose related effect of the aqueous seed extract of Carica papaya Linn. extract (CPE) was evaluated by pre-treating three groups of rats (made up of six male rats per group) with 100 – 400 mg/k...
An assay on the effect of indofil toxicity on the total serum protein
content of Channa punctatus (Bloch)
The experiment was conducted on freshwater teleost fish, Channa punctatus (Bloch.), to study the effect of fungicide–Indofil on certain haematobiochemical parameter i.e., total serum protein. Indofil is a carbamate fun...
Protective role of green tea extract against genotoxic damage induced
by anabolic steroids in cultured human lymphocytes
Tea (Camellia sinensis) is one of the most popular beverages consumed worldwide as an infusion of leaves and is valued for its medicinal properties. Tea is a rich source of polyphenols called flavonoids, effective antio...
Protective effect of Ocimum sanctum on lipid peroxidation,
nucleic acids and protein against restraint stress in male albino
rats
Effect of restraint stress on brain oxidative stress parameters and their modulation by Ocimum sanctum Linn (OS) were evaluated in male albino rats. Rats were subjected to restraint / immobilization stress 3h/day for 6...
