WiMAX Channel Decoders with VLSI Architectures

Abstract

Polar codes have raised as an important error correction codes due to their capacity approaching property and also seen them as a major breakthrough in coding theory. WiMAX, which is a wireless communications standard, designed to provide high data rates. WiMAX has been adopted several channel codes at the decoding stage. Instead of those, it was suggested that polar codes which are designed for high speed, can be used. Therefore, a polar decoder which is efficient in terms of speed and with reduced hardware complexity is suggested. This proposed work is compared with different decoders, theoretically, exists for WiMAX. This shows that polar codes are highly superior to other codes in terms of high throughput and hardware complexity.
