WIND SPEED ANALYSIS AT IKEJA, NIGERIA USING THE CONVENTIONAL PROBABILITY DENSITY FUNCTIONS
Journal Title: Journal of Engineering Studies and Research - Year 2018, Vol 24, Issue 3
Abstract
The wind energy potential at Ikeja (Lat. 6.35 N; Long. 3.20 E), Nigeria was statistically analyzed using three of the mostly utilized conventional Probability Distribution Functions (PDFs) in order to determine which of these distributions would give the best means of analysis for wind in this particular location. The best fit test for these PDFs were determined from Akaike Information Criteria, Bayesian Information Criteria, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Cramer-von Mises statistics, Anderson-Darling Statistic, Mean Square Error and Chi-Square Test using Maximum Likelihood Estimation and Method of Moments as parameter estimates. The Weibull distribution gave the best fit in this location.
PULSE WIDTH MODULATION TECHNIQUE FOR THE SPEED CONTROL OF M-PHASE AC MOTORS
Thyristors are now widely used in many power electronics and motor driven applications and all the known methods of control are nothing but variations of either the phase angle firing control (PFC) or the pulse width mod...
ON THE PHOTOLUMINESCENCE AND OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF ZINC OXIDE THIN FILMS PREPARED BY THERMAL OXIDATION
Zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were prepared by thermal oxidation of vacuum evaporated metallic zinc films. Some structural investigation, performed by X-ray diffraction technique, showed that films are polycrystalline and...
MAPPING OF SALTWATER INTRUSION AT IGBOKODA, SOUTHWESTERN, NIGERIA USING COMBINED GEOPHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL TECHNIQUES
This research work was set out to map saltwater intrusion in Igbokoda area of Ilaje, Ondo State, Southwestern, Nigeria using combined geophysical and chemical techniques. Eight (8) Vertical Electrical sounding were carri...
EVALUATION OF THE HEATING SYSTEM FROM AN INJECTION MOLDING MACHINE
Injection is an economical process characterised through an increased productivity that leads, in the majority of cases, to finite pieces. The process of injection includes two distinctive phases, firstly, when the melti...
BRIDGING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF FOSSIL FUEL ENERGY: THE CONTRIBUTING ROLE OF ALTERNATIVE ENERGY
The demand for fossil fuel energy remains high amid challenges as it relates to its sustainability among the developing countries of the world. Nigeria remains one of the top consumption of fossil fuel energy considering...
