Wpływ reaktywnych form tlenu na ośrodkowy układ nerwowy

Abstract
Stres oksydacyjny w komórkach organizmu to przewaga potencjału oksydacyjnego nad statusem antyoksydacyjnym. Przyczyną stresu oksydacyjnego są reaktywne formy tlenu (RFT) powstające podczas niepełnej redukcji cząsteczki tlenu w łańcuchu oddechowym oraz wiele reakcji biochemicznych zachodzących w komórce. Skutkiem działania RFT są uszkodzenia błon komórkowych, zmiany strukturalne i funkcjonalne białek enzymatycznych i nieenzymatycznych, zaburzenia w budowie DNA. Przyczyną stresu oksydacyjnego może być nie tylko nadmierne wytwarzanie wolnych rodników, ale również spadek aktywności enzymów antyoksydacyjnych i/lub obniżenie poziomu czynników redukujących. Mózg jest narządem szczególnie wrażliwym na działanie reaktywnych form tlenu ze względu na dużą zawartość nienasyconych kwasów tłuszczowych, intensywny metabolizm tlenowy i stosunkowo małą aktywność enzymów antyoksydacyjnych. Liczne dane wskazują na udział stresu oksydacyjnego w patogenezie wielu chorób neurodegeneracyjnych
