Journal Title: Acta Universitatis Nicolai Copernici, Archeologia - Year 2011, Vol 2011, Issue 0

Abstract

W-25 was discovered 8th August 1982 year by archaeologists from the Department of Underwater Research in Central Maritime Museum. Although there is preserved only bottom part of the hull, this is the most persevering wreck with wooden construction which was discovered by CMM. Build of the hull of this wreck it’s an interesting material to studies about the construction of the Baltic’s vessels from first half XVIIIth century. The inside of the wreck was covered and stern was located under the bottom. The preserved part of the hull is ca 28,5 metre long. Wreck is 8,74 metre wide and ca 2 metre high. He is distinguished by double planking. The planks was sealed and joined by pins. Based on so far known sources we can suggest that it was a big cargo vessel with three mast and relatively heavy-duty construction, probably in galiot type. Because in main step-mast was deposited Sweden copper coin 1 öre from 1731 year, we can said that the vessel was build in some with Sweden port at the time of the Frederic Ist reign. This vessel probably was sail between the Baltic’s ports.
