Writing textbook of Belarusian history in conditions of «struggle on the ideological front» (1930–40s)

Abstract
Article is devoted to the attempts of Belarusian historians to create textbook on Belarusian history under different titles, made by them in 1934–1945. The difficult fate of this comprehensive work is traced: the book undergone significant changes within short period in title, type of publication, not to mention scientific approaches and contents. Planned publications’ types varied from school and university textbooks to summarizing work in one or several volumes. In conditions of pre-war period the very preparation of such work has received strong political character. During the Great Patriotic War the work not only hasn’t stopped despite all the hardships and personnel losses, but even received serious boost. Details of how Belarusian historians’ creative research in native history intertwined with questionable and changing political and ideological guidelines were revealed and demonstrated based on collision archival materials and private collections of academicians Vladimir Picheta and Vladimir Pertsev.
