YOUTH ACADEMIC AND THE IDEA OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The paper presents selected results of international research on the opinions and attitudes of academic youth towards the idea of sustainable development. The respondents' answers to the question about living in harmony with sustainable development were analyzed. Answers to the surveys in 2017 were provided by 1054 students from over 30 European countries. Considering the diversity of respondences’ answers, attention was drawn to the country of origin of the youth by presenting the group of Polish students in the light of young people from other European countries. It was also examined whether the level of education (1st, 2nd and 3rd degree studies) influenced the diversity of responses. The data was obtained using a questionnaire in English and processed using pivot tables developed in the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. In the light of the obtained results, it was found that the most-lived students in the EU-15 countries declared their lives in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. Along with raising the level of education, a tendency to increase awareness of sustainable development was noticed.<br/><br/>
