Zirconium dioxide-based bridges: Selected clinical and laboratory aspects. Part I.

Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2016, Vol 66, Issue 1

Abstract

This article presents fixed partial denture specifications and kinds of material they are made of. Zirconium dioxide-based bridges and all-zirconia non-veneered bridges are used to fill the interdental gap and to restore the masticatory function. Their high aesthetic values and qualities gain patients’ approval. Attention is paid to the advantages and disadvantages of zirconium dioxide-based bridges and the preparation of abutments is described. The restoration of the dental arch with prosthetic reconstruction entails the detailed examination and the need to develop prosthetic restoration design. A properly designed fixed partial denture reduces the risk of dental treatment failure. The recommendations and restrictions concerning the pontic length and its shape in different CAD/CAM systems, specified by producers, are discussed. The connector design, playing an important role due to the highest stress concentration in this area is strongly emphasized. The availability of zirconium dioxide blanks of different sizes intended for milling is also mentioned.
