Abstract

Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) is a perennial plant of the Xanthorrhoeaceae family. Aloe vera is a very important crop extensively used for food, medicinal and cosmetic industry. Aloe vera possesses medicinal properties which augur good health. Aloe vera is used in traditional medicine as a skin treatment. It's got antiviral and antibacterial properties, and the ability to help treat everything from constipation to diabetes. The plant leaves contains numerous vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, natural sugars and other bioactive compounds with emollient, purgative, antimicrobial, anti inflammatory, anti-oxidant, aphrodisiac, anti-helmenthic, antifungal, antiseptic and cosmetic values for health care. This plant has potential to cure sunburns, burns and minor cuts, and even skin cancer. The leaves are green, thick and fleshy with a spongy texture. Aloe vera gel's texture works really well as a primer. Its hydrating and smoothing properties prepare our skin, for make up that looks matt and natural. The gel firmness, a physical property defined as the maximum force required to puncture the aloe vera tissue, was measured as an indicator of texture. Firmness of samples was measured using a Texture Analyzer (Model TA-XT Plus, Surrey, UK).
