3R'S (Read-Record-Review) for Oral Reading Fluency

Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2023, Vol 6, Issue 11

Abstract

Oral reading fluency skill is considered to be the bridge to reading comprehension. The ability to read text aloud with speed, accuracy, and prosody is defined as fluent reading. In this study, the oral reading fluency scores and level of the struggling readers in grade 7 were assessed specifically in terms of accuracy, automaticity, and prosody. A pre-test - post-test design was used to determine the effectiveness of the program. Program 3Rs showed improvement in the accuracy scores of the struggling readers and also in the oral reading fluency level progressing from frustration to instructional level. Similarly, the program 3R's significantly increased the automaticity scores of struggling readers. On the other hand, program 3R's effectively increased the struggling readers' prosody scores and improved the readers' oral reading fluency level. Generally, program 3R's was an effective intervention to improve the oral reading fluency of learners as reflected in the different tables.
