APLICANDO O MÉTODO MULTIDIMENSIONAL IN-DEPTH LONG-TERM CASE STUDIES PARA AVALIAR VISUALIZAÇÃO DE INFORMAÇÕES

Journal Title: Revista Competência - Year 2010, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

Information visualization is meant to support the analysis and comprehension of (often large) datasets through techniques intended to show features, patterns, clusters and trends which are not always visible even when using a graphical representation. During the development of information visualization techniques, the designer has to take into account the users’ tasks to choose the graphical metaphor as well as the interactive resources to be provided. Testing and evaluating the usability of the techniques also certainly demand a clear definition of tasks if interaction experiments are to be performed. The identification and understanding of these tasks is still a research question although some authors have proposed classifications (or taxonomies) along the years. The present work reports and compares the results of case studies conducted as Multi-dimensional In-depth Long-term Case studies. The case studies were carried out to classify visualization tasks at different abstraction levels, as well as to establish a MILCs-based usability evaluation method for visualization tools.
