A case report of indirect hematophagy by a Salticidae spider (Arachnida: Araneae) in Quintana Roo, Mexico

Journal Title: REVISTA CHILENA DE ENTOMOLOGÍA - Year 2022, Vol 48, Issue 4

Abstract

We report a case of indirect hematophagy involving the jumping spider Frigga pratensis (Peckham and Peckham) by consuming a female specimen of Aedes albopictus Skuse in the city of Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico. This is the first record of such an unusual phenomenon in the Neotropics; it is debated whether this is an isolated case or whether there are major ecological implications.
