Use of Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) as a biological agent for cleaning the bones of small vertebrates

Journal Title: REVISTA CHILENA DE ENTOMOLOGÍA - Year 2022, Vol 48, Issue 3

Abstract

The use of larvae of Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus, 1758 as a cleaning agent for the bones of birds and small mammals is documented. After three months, more insect activity was observed in dry debris than in wet debris. This technique requires constant supervision to avoid damage to the weaker bone pieces by the action of the larvae.
