Abstract
A Comparative Study of Ibn Ājurrūm’s al-Muqaddima al-Ājurrūmiyya and Birgivī’s alʿĀwāmil in Terms of Methodology and Approach Differences in Language Teaching This article discusses some of the methodological and approach differences in language teaching in classical Arabic grammar books. In this context, Ibn Ājurrūm’s (d.723/1323) alMuqaddima al-Ājurrūmiyya and Birgīvī’s (d.981/1573) al-ʿAwāmil have been identified as two examples. Although these two works, which have been taught in madrasas for many centuries, are based on the theory of governance (ʿāmil theory) they have some differences in internal planning and teaching methods. These differences manifest themselves as a preference for a more thematic understanding due to some pedagogical concerns or as a strict application of the iʿrāb-centered classification. This study aims to reveal these differences by examining the content plans of both works and then comparing the obtained data
