A Comparative Study of Psychiatric Morbidity in Diabetis Mellitus with Poor and Fair Control Status.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus, also known as simply diabetes, is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. This high blood sugar produces the symptoms of frequent urination, increased thirst and increased hunger. Untreated Diabetes can cause many complications. Acute complications include diabetic ketoacidosis and nonketotic hyperosmolar coma. Serious long-term complications include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, foot ulcers and damage to the eyes. There are two main types of diabetes mellitus:Type 1 diabetes mellitus and Type 2 diabetes mellitus . This condition can cause some psychological problems with in the individual, i.e. Anxiety, depression, sleep awake cycle disturbances, lack of interest in involvement of activities ultimately leaday to loss of DALYS and imparment of quality of life. In most of the cases this part has been ignored by the physicians as well as by the family members.The present study is conducted to study the psychiatric morbidity in patients diagnosed as diabetes mellitus.
