Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Gynaecology - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 3

Abstract

Background: Abdominal hysterectomy is most commonly performed surgery in gynaecology. Various ways to perform are total hysterectomy, open abdominal hysterectomy, vaginal hysterectomy and laproscopic hysterectomy. Aim and Objective: To compare total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) and total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH) at a tertiary care centre with respect to indications, hospital stay, duration of surgery and post operative complications Methodology: Total 100 patients were studied who were posted for total hysterectomy. They were divided into two groups. 50 patients underwent total laproscopic hysterectomy and 50 underwent total abdominal hysterectomy. Data was collected with respect to sociodemographic characters, duration of surgery, hospital stay and post operative complications. Results and Discussion: Duration of surgery in TAH group (80.35± 8.3 min) was significantly less than in TLH group (105.38±9.76min) (p value <0.05). Mean Hospital stay of patients in TAH group (5.3±1.2 days) was significantly more than that of TLH group (3.21±1.43days).
