Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 1
Abstract
Fistula in Ano is a non-malignant treatable lesion of the rectum and the anal canal. Cryptoglandular infection accounts for approx. 90% of these cases. Majority of the infections are acute and few cases contributed by chronic low-grade infection hence pointing to varying etiologies. The need for the study is to evaluate the various surgical techniques as directed by the nature of the fistula and its eiology and pathology along with the combination of medical management and hence to have a comprehensive overview and understanding of this surgical condition. Aims and Objectives: To study the various modes of clinical presentations of these fistulae-in-ano and to study the efficacy of different modalities of surgical approach with reference to persistence / recurrence of fistulae. Results: In present study we found that common age of incidence of fistula in ano was 31 to 40 years. It was common in males from lower socio economic strata. Pain was seen in more than 90% subjects. Posteriorly situated, single opening, lower level fistula was common finding in study subjects. Conclusion: Knowledge of various modes of presentation of fistula in ano is very necessary for surgical approach and also for proper healing.
