A CONSERVATIVE PRO-WESTERNIZATION YOUNG TURK IN TURKISH POLITICAL HISTORY: MIZANCI MURAD

Abstract
Mehmet Murad Bey called as "Mizancı Murad" gained reputation his history instructor in Mülkiye Mektebi and journalism in Meşrutiyet period intellectuals. Mizancı Murad who represents the conservative wing in Young Turk movement, supports the political modernization and establishment of political institutions in Ottoman government for this modernization, as other pro-westernization intellectuals in that period. Mizancı Murad, who sophisticated personality as being a historian, man of letters, thinker and actionary, has conflict attitudes and thoughts in his intellectual life for supporting the idea that "considering the interest of the state and sympathy for caliphate authority". This study, trying to demonstrate the contributions of Mizancı Murad to this history of Turkish political thought by his autobiography and his works, is hoping to put forth the intellectual wealth of Young Turk movement.
