A General Approach to Othering in The Novel Beni Kör Kuyularda by Hasan Ali Toptaş

Abstract
Hasan Ali Toptaş includes in his works characters who are outcasted by society. The sense of being of the otherness, which constitutes an important part of the author's own life and authorship, is the starting point of this study. The characters in this work explain how the concept of difference is interpreted as well as how people tend to position these different individuals within their network of social relations in line with this interpretation. In the novel, the ruthlessness shown by the flocking crowd to a marginalized family suffering from desperation, and the disrespect for the privacy of the person are the subjects. The exploitation of the human body and insensitivity to pain also appear as sub-texts. The theme of this novel, which the author presents as a fairy-tale world through poetic elaboration, is like a mirror of today’s dilemma. In this mirror, the writer shows the reader the frame of those who cannot adapt, tame, and/or do not agree with an increasingly corrupt society. This is noteworthy that although everything is in front of everyone, no one should lend a helping hand, and everyone should have an indifferent attitude towards pain. As a result of analysis discussed in parallel with the storyline work, society's culture-based methods othering. By hermeneutics, it has been concluded that the society in the novel marginalizes the people whom the society calls different by ignoring their privacy and making them a viewing material.
