A genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation for chronic knee pain: A clinical based experience from Ichalkaranji, Maharashtra, India

Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Anesthesiology - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 2

Abstract

Background:Managing chronic knee pain is always a challenging task. Multi-options drive pain physician or orthopedic surgeons to a cafeteria of choice approach for selection of therapy. GNRFA remains a good alternative being safe, efficient, and cheap with minimal invasive nature. Objectives: To assess baseline pain experienced in patients of osteo-arthritis and to assess the treatment outcome. Methods: A record based retrospective analysis of 63 patients who underwent GNRFA (Genicular Nerve Radiofrequency Ablation) from April 2015 to September 2018. Oxford knee score scale was followed to assess baseline pain status and osteo-arthritis was graded as per radiography classification byKellgrenand Lawrence.Pain relief assessment was documented at 3 months. Statistical significance was tested. Conclusion: Mean age for Male and Female respondents were found as 61.6 ± 8.3years and 63.9 ± 9.2 years. 65% belonged to grade III and 35% belonged to grade IV. About 2/3rd i.e. 74.60 % showed more than 50 % pain relief at 3 months more in females which was statically not significant.
