Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze the correlation of the homicide in the world with some geographic variables of the countries. The data have been obtained from the database of the World Bank and the World Fact Book. Based on the dependent variable, the annual homicide rates of 178 countries, the relational screening model and multiple linear regression which can explain the annual homicide rates of the countries have been used in this study. According to findings of the research, in the countries where forested areas, literacy rate and death rate is high, more murders are committed. On the contrary, in the countries high at average age, unemployment rate and Gross National Product (GNP) the homicide rate is lower. According to the analysis results, it is observed that homicide rates on a global scale have concentrated in the countries especially in the Central America and the Central and South Africa. In this context, the findings of the study have been discussed within the relevant literature and some recommendations have been made for the future studies.
