Journal Title: Medicine and Philosophy - Year 2024, Vol 45, Issue 22
Abstract
Based on archival materials from Beijing, professional journals, and medical textbooks, this study presents the evolution of cervical cancer screening in Beijing from 1949 to 1965, focusing on the technological and organizational aspects of the initiative. It traced the progression from initial pilot programs to screenings in factories and districts, and the subsequent establishment of routine cytological examinations in gynecological outpatient clinics across the city. Large-scale screening and treatment efforts were rapidly launched, providing substantial support for understanding, preventing, and controlling cervical cancer. The valuable experiences gained in Beijing's cervical cancer screening work offered a reference model and methods for other regions, thereby facilitating the nationwide advancement of cervical cancer prevention and control efforts.
