A HISTORY OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERIES IN THE HOLY LAND

Journal Title: Revista Romana de Studii Eurasiatice - Year 2007, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

A history of archaeological discoveries in the Holy Land is trying to present, from the interest in the history of Israel - whose substance lies in the Jews sacred texts of the Bible - archaeological discoveries in their historical evolution. Dealing with archeology not only as a romantic picnic, but also as the effort of individuals such as Seetzen, Burckhardt, Smith, Renan, Waren, Petrie, Macalister and Selin, the approach continues by bringing in forefront places mentioned in the Bible Review, such as: Old Gat of the Philistine, Ghezer, Megiddo, Sichem, Jericho, Hazor. By working together and scoring the disinterested scientists from different areas, followed by listing the scientific practices of research and the concise presentation of the dating methods, we wanted something else, than to demonstrate that studying past becomes ever more the subject of experts, in fact a multidisciplinary or even an interdisciplinary effort.
