A multi-stage implant treatment of the patient with edentulous atrophic maxilla Part I. Surgical procedures

Abstract
In view of the problems faced by the patient while adapting to a conventional complete upper denture and her dissatisfaction with the appearance of her residual dentition, a multi-stage, long-term reconstructive treatment within the masticatory organ was accepted. This article presents the surgical procedures, prosthetic treatment follow-up and clinical documentation of therapeutic stages collected during a period of over one year. Its first part deals with clinical and radiological diagnosis and describes surgical procedures of lifting both bone sinuses and augmentation (elevating and widening) of the osseous structures of the alveolar maxillary ridge by using an autogenic iliac bone graft. The stages of insertion of ten intraosseous implants of various length and shape, evenly distributed in the upper arch of the alveolar ridge, are also presented.
