A PROBLEM OF THE VERTICAL DISCRETIZATION OF THE 3D GROUNDWATER FLOW MODELS IN AREAS WITH VERY DIVERSIFIED HYPSOMETRY – THE ŚWIERADÓW-ZDRÓJ AND CZERNIAWA-ZDRÓJ CASE STUDY

Abstract
The authors of the paper present how to make the correct vertical discretezation of the 3D groundwater flow model domain in the areas with the strongly diversi fied hypsometry. The presented problem applies to the finite difference method. The authors show that the vertical discretization procedure implemented in the Modflow graphic environment can generate the vertical partition of the model domain which is inconsistent with the process of the numerical solution of the groundwater flow equation. This inconsistency is clearly visible in the case of the strongly diversified terrain hypsometry within the model domain area and results in numerical calculations errors.
