A PROFILE OF SUICIDE IN FEMALES – A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY OF TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL, MANDYA, KARNATAKA

Abstract
Suicide, a major problem worldwide, is one of the leading causes of death in the world accounting for more than a million deaths annually. The present retrospective study is carried out on female population between November 2012 to November 2014 at the mortuary, MIMS, Mandya. Cases were analyzed as to age group of victim, education standards, rural to urban ratio, caste, methods adopted and predisposing factors. The vulnerable age was found to be 21-30 years (43.27%), literate population who had graduated secondary school (32.69%), urbanites 74(83.65%), Hindu females 163(78.37%), place of occurrence being residence 178 (85.87%), married women with marital problems (65.38%) and hanging (60.58%) were the outcome of our study.
