A QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS ON ACADEMICAL ORGANIZATIONS WITH RESPECT TO VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE: A CASE STUDY IN ANTALYA

Abstract
The basics of labour life are in related with vocational guidance studies that take place in educational process. School psychological guidance services, which also take place in vocational guidance works, function an important role for students on choosing a career for their future. In this study adolescents', school psychological guidance's', and principals' opinions on the vocational guidance services in high schools were analyzed. The research was in the pattern of a multiple-holistic case study which was a type of qualitative studies and was performed by using a semi-structured interview form for face-to-face interviews that were recorded. The volunteer participants included 4 principal, 3 school psychological guidance, and 24 high school students in three different Anatolian high schools in Antalya city centre. The data collected were classified under themes and sub-themes by applying content analysis. For the results it could be said that the benefits of vocational guidance services were expansion of the horizon, recognition of jobs and self according to the principals. On the other hand, according to school psychological guidance, vocational guidance works included tests-survey, introducing the examination system, university visits, and individual meetings. On the adolescents' side, vocational guidance works had functions on self-recognition, choosing a career consciously, planning the future and recognition of professions. Except these results, there were also more important findings gathered by the means of analysis on interviews. These findings were also discussed in the light of the literature.
