A Rare Presentation of Intracranial Arteriovenous Malformation with an Aneurysm.
Journal Title: Gujarat Medical Journal - Year 2017, Vol 72, Issue 1
Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Arteriovenous malformations of brain are congenital lesion most likely developing during the 4th week of embryonic life. Aneurysms result from degenerative processes rather than congenital defect of vessel wall. A 28 year muslim female with complaints of headache, vomiting and loss of consciousness admitted .CT brain suggestive of subarachnoid haemorrhage and intraventricular haemorrhage. CT angiography brain suggestive of arteriovenous malformation of 4*5 cm in right frontal region along with distal ACAaneurysm of 6*5mm. patient underwent craniotomy and clipping of aneurysm and excision of arteriovenous malformation through interhemispheric fissure approach. METHOD: Patient was conscious and oriented in postoperative period without any focal neurological deficit. Patient discharged on postoperativeday-12 with anticonvulsant drug RESULT: Approximately 1 in 15 patients with arteriovenous malformation will harbor an intracranial aneurysm. 1 in 100 patients with aneurysm will have an arteriovenous malformation. ANALYSIS: Aneurysms associated with arteriovenous malformation are more prone to haemorrhage than other solitary aneurysm and hence requires urgent attention. DISCUSSION: Aneurysms associated with arteriovenous malformation are more prone to haemorrhage than other solitary aneurysm and hence requires urgent attention.
