Placenta Praevia Percreta with Bladder Invasion- A Case Report

Journal Title: Gujarat Medical Journal - Year 2017, Vol 72, Issue 1

Abstract

Placenta percreta is an obstetric emergency associated with massive haemorrhage and often a peripartum 1 hysterectomy. Placenta accreta (PA) is characterized by abnormal invasion of placenta into myometrium. PA is defined as superficial invasion, placenta increta as middle layer invasion and placenta percreta as deep invasion, which is the most severe form of PA with an incidence of one in 7000 .The incidence of PA has dramatically increased due to increasing Caesarean section rates. Maternal morbidity and mortality associated with PA is mainly caused by massive obstetric hemorrhage or emergency hysterectomy, and PA is often diagnosed during delivery or immediately post-partum leading to an obstetric emergency. Antenatal diagnosis may reduce obstetric hemorrhage-related morbidity. A firm preoperative diagnosis allows adequate preparation and organization of multidisciplinary help for what may be a difficult surgical procedure. 3 2 Herein, we present a case report where high suspicion of placenta percreta preoperatively led to preoperative preparations of keeping adequate blood products ready and a multi-disciplinary team ready.
