A Rare Septic Transfusion Reaction: Case Report

Journal Title: Research and Practice in Anesthesiology – Open Journal - Year 2017, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

Transfusion of packed red blood cells (PRBCs) is indicated in severely bleeding patients and in anemic patients who require increased oxygen-carrying capacity. According to the 2016 AABB guidelines, for patients who are hemodynamically stable without active bleeding, PRBC transfusion is likely indicated for hemoglobin of 6 to 7 g/dL. A higher threshold is indicated in patients with cardiovascular disorders.
