A reflectvist vision of the otherness in the frame of International Relations

Abstract

The investigation will try to analyze the functioning of the international system as a consequence of the diverse constructions of an Other, which it is possible to do from the otherness or from the opposition, resulting in cooperation or conflictual relationships, as the case may be. There will be a review of the reflectivist approaches (constructivism, feminism, postmodernism) for trying to understand the construction of an Other in the international relations, in both theory and practice, analyzing the use of dichotomous categories as West/East, North/South, civilized/ uncivilized, developed / underdeveloped, among others. In this way it will be possible analyze the role of identities and the perceptions of the world around play with regard to the construction of an other and how through the otherness recognition and the respect of the difference in a multicultural world may be obtained, presenting fully representative case studies. Methodologically, consisted of using the historical method and the documentary analysis of both direct and indirect sources.
