A REVIEW OF RICINUS COMMUNIS LINN.

Abstract

Ricinus communis Linn. is a widely described plant since ancient time in Vedas, Puranas, Samhitas and Nighantus. It is generally used in diseases in neuro-muscular disorders like generalized pain, inflammation, hemiplegiea, facial palsy etc. It is also a content in many medicinal and herbal preparation. The drug Ricinus communis Linn which is found all over India was selected for review. Ricinus is a genus having one species Ricinus communis (Linn.), which belongs to family Euphorbiaceae and sub-family Acalyphoideae. It is well known for its Anti-inflammatory property mentioned by ancient as well as modern books of Ayurveda. The drug Ricinus communis Linn is an evergreen small sized tree grown up to twelve meters height, having green or shades of red monoecious flowers without petals and spiny, greenish (to reddish purple) capsule like fruit containing large, oval, shiny and bean like seeds inside it.
