A REVIEW ON SHLESHMALA YONI VYAPAT(CANDIDA ALBICANS) IN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Purpose: Shleshmala Yoni Vyapat is one among the twenty Yoni Vyapats which affects the reproductive health of women. The second most common infections among reproductive aged women with a single incidence of 75%, and two or more episodes in 45% of women. Candida albicans is responsible for 85% to 90% of the vaginal yeast infections. In present era, women take up specific jobs other than household activities and due to change in life style, food habits, workload; women face excessive stress and strain. Due to this stressful lifestyle and abnormal behavioral pattern leads to hormonal imbalance and disrupts the vaginal flora and causes the Shleshmala yoni vyapat. Shleshmala Yoni Vyapat can be correlated with candida albicans based on its symptomatology and pathophysiology. Though the treatments like antifungal gels and antifungal pills, pessary are effective, they are neither free from complications nor can prevent the recurrence. Methodology: To review the Ayurvedic literature regarding Shleshmala yoni vyapat and its management and to enlighten the importance of Ayurveda in this present era in improving the quality of life of women in reproductive age group. Discussion: Shleshmala Yoni Vyapat is the one of the condition also called as vaginal trush and is caused by the yeast like organism candida albicans, a gram positive fungus which disturbs the daily life of the women on single episode or on recurrence. Conclusion: Maintaining the health of reproductive organs depends on the individuals own hygienic habits along with dietary and behavioral pattern. So not only Sleshmahara management but also diet and hygiene are also needed for preventive care.
