Journal Title: European Journal of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences - Year 2019, Vol 6, Issue 10

Abstract

Personalized medicine (PM) is a form of medicine that uses information about a person‘s genes, proteins, and environment to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease.PM stretches from prevention to screening and therapy, and refers to ‗P4 medicine‘: predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory medicine. Pharmacogenomics is genomic information is used to study individual responses to drugs. When a gene variant is associated with a particular drug response in a patient, there is the potential for making clinical decisions based on genetics by adjusting the dosage or choosing a different drug. Studying drug action in individuals, researchers focus on two major determinants: Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics. Biomarkers are of increasing importance for personalized medicine, with applications including diagnosis, prognosis, and selection of targeted therapies. DNA tumor biomarkers indicates biomarkers specific to cancerous tumors.
