A "SMARTGRIDS-ASSISTANT" FOR POWER GRID OPERATION AND TRAINING
Journal Title: ANALELE UNIVERSITATII DIN CRAIOVA - Seria Inginerie electrica - Year 2010, Vol 34, Issue 34
Abstract
SmartGrids are understood as cell-wise structured, intelligent supply areas with own, distributed and renewable generators and storages. The actual intelligence is the IT-supported structure and control, especially to match fluctuating generation and load. Since there are typically a large number of options, this will not happen completely automatically. With the integration of the new components, the distribution system operators and their personnel face new tasks. The scope of operational grid control is extended with the management of fluctuating generators, loads and storage units. Possibly, the legal framework will be reason to establish new structures for the control center staff to perform the new activities beyond the regulated DSO. The individual generation situation and the transports have to be managed, the voltage to be stabilized and the grid components to be dispatched. The authors in cooperation with the German power supplier HEAG Südhessische Energie AG (HSE) are developing the electronic SmartGrids-Assistant (SGA) as an EMS function of the SCADA system. It cyclically submits proposals to the control center staff how to dispatch the grid’s components and resources optimally. The SGA will be used for operational training at first to prepare the staff for the new tasks and then serve as an online decision assistant for Smart Grid component operation.

Control circuit of an Electronically Controlled Capacitor for the Optimization of the Single Phase Induction Motor
The control circuit of an Electronically Controlled Capacitor (ECC) for the optimization of the Single Phase Induction Motor (SPIM) with auxiliary winding is presented. The control circuit is based on a fixed value AC ca...
Diminishing the Computational Burden when Analyzing Electrical Signals with Long Wavelet Filters
Wavelet analysis is characterized by filters with irrational coefficients and runtimes increasing with filters order. The terminal nodes of Wavelet Packet decomposition trees exhibit good harmonics’ selectivity when impl...
Extended Study Regarding Sustained Transfer Rate for 802.11 Wi-Fi Communications With Partially Overlapped Channels Interference
This paper extends the pervious studies of the authors on the 802.11 Wi-Fi Communication regarding the influence on the sustained transfer rate caused by the existence of the Partially Overlapped Channels (POCs) inter...
Improving Efficiency of DWT Analysis through Faster Interpolation Methods and Multithreading Techniques
The paper deals with techniques to accelerate the DWT power quality analysis. A brief description of a nonspline interpolation schematic is provided firstly. It is used for the evaluation of the first components...
ON THE AMPACITY OF INSULATED CONDUCTORS IN CONDUIT
In the paper, a practical method for determining the smallest allowable cross-sectional area of circuit insulated conductors or single-core cables in conduit buried in a thermally insulated wall is proposed. A way to obt...
