A study of Acute Appendicitis patients presenting as non-traumatic acute abdomen at tertiary health care center

Abstract

Background: Acute appendicitis is the leading cause of surgical acute abdomen worldwide, with a prevalence of approximately 7% of the population Aims and Objectives: To study Acute Appendicitis patients presenting as non-traumatic acute abdomen at tertiary health care center Methodology: After approval from institutional ethical committee this study was conducted in tertiary care hospital from period January 2015 to June 2016 for duration of 18 months. Result: In our study, most common age group involved in acute appendicitis was 20-30 years of age group. All patients admitted with provisional diagnosis of acute appendicitis were having pain in right iliac fossa Acute appendicitis has slightly male preponderance. In this study male to female ratio was 1.44:1. In our study most common intraoperative finding in patient with provisional diagnosis of acute appendicitis was acute inflamed appendicitis and least common intraoperative finding was normal appendix. Conclusion: we have found Most common intraoperative finding in patients with preoperative provisional diagnosis of acute appendicitis was acute inflamed appendicitis followed by perforated appendicitis, gangrenous appendicitis and normal appendix was least common finding.
