Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 1

Abstract

Background: Gall stone disease is common disease. various modalities of treatment are available for cholelithiasis like conversative treatment, open cholecystectomy and laproscopic cholecystectomy. Present study compares the open cholecystectomy with that of laproscopic one. Aim and Objective: To analyze the differences in length of hospital stay, time of surgery and post operative complications between laproscopic and open cholecystectomy in patients of cholelithiasis Methodology: Prospective study carried out in 100 patients undergoing cholecystectomy. Study was done in a tertiary care centre. Laproscopic and open cholecystectomy were compared in relation with hospital stay, duration of surgery and post operative complications. Results and Discussion: The mean operation time for Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was significantly longer than for Open cholecystectomy. Duration of post-operative pain and analgesia required were significantly less in laparoscopic cholecystectomy (1.6±0.9 days) than open cholecystectomy. Postoperative complications were identified in(18.75%) patients after open cholecystectomy and in(13%) after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Surgical site infection was the commonest complication.
