A study of management of varicose vein in the calf at tertiary health care centre

Abstract

Background: The term varicose vein refers to abnormally dilated, tortuous, elongated, friable superficial veins, usually of lower limbs. These varicose veins have permanently lost their valvular efficiency. Aims and Objectives:To Study management of varicose vein in the calf at tertiary health care centre. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in the patients of varicose vein during the one year period i.e. March 2018toFebruary 2019 with the written and explained consent 88 patients were admitted and evaluated for the surgical fitness. All of them undergone all routine testing like CBC, USG of varicose vein and incompetent valve were identified. The data of age, sex, outcome of procedure and complications if any were noted and entered to excel sheet and analyzed by Excel for windows 10.Results: The majority of the patients as were in the age group of 50-60were 39.77%, followed by 40-50, Were 23.86%, 60-70were 19.32%, 30-40were 15.91%, 20-30were 1.14%.The majority of the patients were Male i.e. 55.68 % and Female were 44.32%. As per the outcome majority of the patients recovered i.e. 65.91%, 19.32% patients recovered with complications i.e. 19.32%, 14.77% recovered with residual varicosity.Pain at injection sitein 14.77% followed bySkin tanningin 13.64%, Bruising in 10.23%, Neurasthesia, In 7.95%,Superficial skin necrosisin 5.68%.Conclusion: It can be concluded from our study that majority of the patients recovered with Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy Treatment and complications were very less and the out of that the most common complications were Pain at injection site, Skin tanning, Bruising, Neurasthesia.
