Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 3

Abstract

Background: Hemorrhoids are amongst the most frequent anorectal conditions ffecting approximately 4–36 % of the general population Aims and Objectives: Study in the post operative patients of stappler hemorroidectomy so compare its result with conventional methods. After approval form the institutional ethiscal committee a cross-sectional study was carried out in on the 70 patients of Diagnosed patients of hemorrhoids during March 2017 to March 2018 was carried out at the tertiary care hospital, written consent of the patients. All eligible patients who needs surgery (Grade III and IV) for hemorrhoids were given treatment by stapler hemorroidectomy and conventional hemorrhoidectomy the allocation of the patients done randomly and allotted by the random number enerated by computer. The statistical analysis done by Unpaired t-test and calculated by SPSS 19 version software. Results: The difference in two groups of the average age is comparable (P>0.05; t=2.34; df=68); Operative time was significantly lower in Stapler hemorroidectomy compared to Group B(P< 0.0001 ;t = 10.00; df=38.) ; Intra-operative bleeding was significantly lower in Stapler hemorroidectomy compared to Conventional hemorroidectomy. (P< 0.001; t = 52.24, df=68.); Time to first bowel movement (hr) was significantly lower in Stapler hemorroidectomy compared to Conventional hemorroidectomy (P<0.001; t = 17.23, df=68); Average hospital stay (Days) was significantly lower in Stapler hemorroidectomy compared to Conventional hemorroidectomy. (P<0.001; t = 4.00df=68); Average Analgesic required (No. of Tab.) was significantly lower in Stapler hemorroidectomy compared to Conventional hemorroidectomy (P<0.001;t=13.67 df=68). Time required for Wound healing was significantly lower in Stapler hemorroidectomy compared to Conventional hemorroidectomy (P<0.001; t = 17.23, df=68). Overall the complications were, more in the Conventional hemorroidectomy (57.14%) as compared to Stapler hemorroidectomy (28.57%). The complications like Urinary retention, Bleeding, Incontinence of flatus, External tags, Recurrence, Anal stenosis, were common in Conventional hemorroidectomy than Stapler hemorroidectomy. Conclusion: It can be concluded from our study that stappler hemorroidectomy was superior with respect to various surgery outcome like less time was required, post operative pain, less stay in the hospital and less complications etc.
