A study of necrotizing fasciitis with reference to clinical, haematological, microbiological and radiological investigations in the diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis

Abstract
Background: Necrotizing fasciitis represents a group of highly lethal infections characterized by rapidly progressing inflammation and necrosis. Microbiological and radiological inv patients with necrotizing fasciitis (NF), seen in surgical OPD that were admitted to Surgical wards of Govt. College Hospital from June2013 to June 2014 diagnosed site was Extremities Histological confirmation of presence necrosis was done 100%, The most common hematological fin Leukocytosis in 86.67% followed by , Anaemia in 70% , mg/dl in 33.33% , Serum creatinine > 2 mg/dl followed by Monomicrobial in 30%, Aerobic was Escherichia coli -51.67% followed by Staphylococci common Monomicrobial etiology of Streptococci was in 1 Radiologically-the majority of the patients on X followed by Gas in the soft tissues in 81.67% . CT in 88.33% , Asymmetrical fasc Distorted and thickened fascial planes the fascial layers-63.33%. Conclusion hematological finding was Leukocytosis follo Polymicrobial etiology was most common common. The most common radiological finding was gas formation and fluid accumulation in fascial layer.
