A study of the level of familiarity with supervisory and managerial skills in managers of public organizations in Fars Province and its role in the organization’s efficiency

Abstract
Managers are a pivotal element and a driving force in organizations and the success and supremacy or failure and decline of them is inseparably related to the managers’ performance. Educated, knowledgeable and efficient managers create productive and effective organizations and provide the society with value added and lead to national wealth and social welfare. In contrast, incompetent and inefficient managers without managerial skills will lead to organizational dissolution and wasting of national capitals and failure for the nation. Managers, for optimal fulfillment of their duties, need to have some skills that have been explored in this study. Using management literature, technical, human and conceptual skills have been considered as managerial skills and the relationship and the impact of the existence or the lack of these skills on the efficiency of the organization have been explored. The field consisted of public organizations in Fars Province. The hypotheses of the study are: there is a positive and significant relationship of supervisory and managerial skills with the efficiency of the organization. There is a significant and positive relationship of supervisory and managerial conceptual skills with the efficiency of the organization. There is a significant and positive relationship of supervisory and managerial human skills with the efficiency of the organization. And finally, there is a significant and positive relationship of supervisory and managerial technical skills with the efficiency of the organization. 201 managers at different levels and 308 employees were explored by standard questionnaires prepared for the study. After the study of the returned forms and doing statistical calculations it was found that the level of different skills mentioned above at different managerial levels was over 50% and the efficiency of the organization was nearly 50%. Thus, the hypotheses of the study were verified.
