A Study of the Perception of Ideology and the “Other” in Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu's Panorama

Abstract

People's perception of the world and the social system varies in parallel with the socioeconomic changes. As a result of these changing perceptions, various worldviews/ideologies that claim to make the world a better place emerge. The perception of “self” and “other” forms in parallel with an ideology/ideologies. This essay will examine the novel “Panorama” by Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu for clues about three ideologies – Islam, nationalism, and socialism – that came out during the Turkish national movement and the perception of the “other” which is shaped by these ideologies.
