A Study to assess the knowledge and attitude towards social stigma on mental health problems.

Abstract
A descriptive study with descriptive approach was undertaken on 50 Il"d year GNM students selected by purposive sampling technique at School of Nursing, SCBMCH, Cuttack, to assess the knowledge and attitude towards social stigma on mental health problems. Data was collected through multiple choice close ended questionnaires and attitude scale .Collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics.Findings revealed that Highest Percentage (98%) of the students were in the age group of 18-22 years. All were female and Hindus (100%). Majorities (60%) of them were from joint family, highest (96%) of them were unmarried and (62%) of students had no information regarding social stigma on mental health problems. The overall mean knowledge scores of the students was (5 .14±1.85) which is 51.4 % of the total score and (72%) of students had average knowledge and (60%) of students had average level attitude scores towards social stigma on mental health problems.
