A Study to Findout the Correlation between Praxis Patterns and Social Participation among Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract

AIM The aim of the study is to find out the correlation between praxis patterns and social participation among children with Autism Spectrum Disorder ASD . METHOD The study included 100 children with ASD in the age group between 5 – 8.11 years. The study was conducted in Department of Occupational Therapy, SVNIRTAR. Praxis subtests of SIPT and Social Participation subscale of Sensory Processing Measure were used to find out praxis skills and social participation in ASD children. The results were then subjected to statistical analysis. RESULT Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used to analyze correlation between praxis skills and social participation among children with ASD. Overall result shows that there is significant strong correlation with social participation and postural praxis, praxis on verbal command, constructional praxis and oral praxis. Sequential praxis had a significant correlation with social participation in moderate range. CONCLUSION The study concluded that there is a strong correlation between social participation and praxis skills patterns in children with ASD.
