Abstract
(The city as visual experience in skateboarding videos in Cluj and Budapest) The skateboarding subculture has always been associated with video production. With their short fi lms, skaters attempt to convey their experiences in and perception of their surroundings. Due to capitalism, modern cities have become somewhat un-functional, homogeneous and abstract – they constitute the space which skaters aim to reconquer. In my writing I aim to analyze various skateboarding videos fi lmed in Budapest and Kolozsvár, with great focus on how the fi lmmakers work with moving pictures and the extent to which each city appears as a visual experience.
