Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2018, Vol 11, Issue 55
Abstract
The goblet is one of the elements of the classical Turkish poetry that takes place in the rich sense of meaning and imagination and is subject to various analogies. In the dictionaries, the goblet is often described as a variety of tools used to drink wine, although it may appear with many different names and definitions. Along with its naming in different languages, it has also taken different names with the details such as the material used to produce and its size. The goblet has been the subject of various analogies with its colour, the engravings on it, its shape and some characteristics of the liquid in it. In classical Turkish poetry tradition, talking about wine and elements about wine is among the most important materials of poets. "Sâkî-Nâme"s (Cupbearer's anthology), one of the important types of our classical literature, are also poetical works that describe the closely or remotely related concepts, tools, feelings and thoughts with wine such as glass, wine, sâkî (cupbearer), tavern, gathering and etc. In this type of poem, the goblet is described in detail with its colour, shape, different names and varieties. In this paper, based on the texts of the "Sâki-Nâme"s, the names and varieties of goblets and the elements that the goblet is associated will be addressed, and thus, a better understanding of this concept will be provided.
