ABREVATION AND COMPOUNDING AS A MEANS OF YOUTH SLANGISMS FORMATION

Abstract

The article deals with the analysis of abbreviation and composition as a means of naming in sublanguage of the young people. The topicality of the study is due to the lack of solid works examining the phenomena and processes of jargon and slang strata word formation. The authors note that substandard derivatology has a range of features being characteristic of the other national language components. It has been argued that the phenomenon of abbreviation is distinctive for youth slang, when commonly used words acquire the status of compound words, and deabreviation – an alternative, original deciphering of abbreviations, which are already recorded in the literary language. The peculiarity of student slang is formation of compound words from the names of educational subjects, the names of types of educational activities, the names of students of certain faculties, etc. A certain part of the literary abbreviations is redefined in the youth slang, in particular in school jargon. Such a peculiar phenomenon as decoding letters marking classes in school is also mentioned. It is proved that humorous expression arises during confrontation between the well-known abbreviation meaning and specific slang interpretation. The article studies the features of compounding as a means of youth slangisms formation. In the youth slang of Kherson only composite nouns are presented, the other parts of speech are not found. The largest in number of complex words are lexical and semantic fields 'disco', 'parts of the body', 'human naming', 'drunkenness'. A certain regular repetition of the foreign-language component -man and some rare cases of complex word formation with the borrowed components -ball, -bus, -boy have been observed. Attention is paid to derivatives from the noun stems with a negative assessment to enhance the pejorative meaning. Examples of formed units with unmotivated parts whose origin is obscured are given.
